Savanah Leaf is a director, photographer, writer and creative. A rare breed of talent, she has mastered the art of telling stories compassionately and bringing captivating stories to life. Uniquely, she does so with equal parts of bold power and instinctive sensitivity.
In her work, she skilfully observes humanity, staying close to her subjects, capturing their expressions and movements and documenting different moments through these powerful observations. Not shy to cover issues that people care about through honesty - thoughts, feelings, culture, race, gender.
Savanah started her film career after becoming injured playing professional volleyball. She competed in the London 2012 Olympics for Team GB and received numerous awards in her sport including NCAA Woman of the Year Finalist, All-American, Player of the Year, and more. She uses the lessons she has learned playing on a team in professional sport to influence how she works in film.
Leaf has published and/or screened in Afro Punk, Cannes Short Corner, Vimeo Staff Picks, London Short Film Festival, Dazed and Confused, Pixar Animation Studios, San Francisco Black Film Festival, One Point Four, Okay Africa, Booooooom TV and many more, working with talents including Gilles Peterson, Dayme Arocena, Mabel McVey, Savanna Small and Alev Lenz.
